Water filtration in Georgetown
Georgetown's water hardness depends on which treatment plant serves your area. That's unusual, and it's a big deal when you're deciding what to install.
The city's Georgetown Utility Systems pulls from Lake Georgetown, Stillhouse Hollow Lake, groundwater, and Lake Travis water bought from Leander and Round Rock.

Hardness varies by plant
According to the city, water from the Lake Georgetown and Southlake plants runs about 176 to 178 mg/L, around 10 to 11 grains per gallon. Water from the Park and Southside plants runs about 309 to 320 mg/L, around 19 grains per gallon.
Both are very hard. The second is among the hardest city water in the metro. Softeners are common in Georgetown for good reason.
Other notes from the 2025 report
